Gail in Poland – as constant as summer break. Why always July and August?

July and August are joyful months for children in Poland when they look into the calendar. With the last days of June they begin the summer vacation. For their guardians it is relax time too – they regularly take a break in their bussineses cause it is marvelous time to spend break in Poland. There is only one unknown – weather.
That specified few months are the time, when in Poland occurs the highest temperature is deeply heat.

Commonly, after few days with 86-95 Fahrenheit degrees warm air near the Earth inosculate with cool wind coming from northward. Collectively it is initiate huge, a few days long gale with lightning. The most massive gales in national past times occurred roughly 90 years ago. First one in July 1928 in Warsaw and nearby towns. That storm causes enormous material losses.

There is no summary info but local media informed about 62 casualties, above 150 injured, ruined apartments, telegraph poles and trees. Lightning hits caused over 100 houses fires. Second monstrous gale occurred in July 1931 near Lublin. Local newapapers inform about wind blowing at a speed of 500 km/h. Contemporary one of the most massive gale occurred between Wrocław and Łódź in 23rd of July 2009 – this two places are more than 200 km away from each other. Storm (known as “Derecho”) causes death of 10 people and 100 wounded. In Poland gales with lightning are yearly incident. Highest number of storms is in south part of country – in districts called Żywiecczyzna, Bieszczady Mountains and Tatra Mountains it happen roughly 35 days per year. Lowest recurrence is in the northern part – 20 days per year.


Other curious fact are storms with hail. But what should occur to form that category of gale? 65 of 68 hailstorms happen when temperature was slightly above 59 Fahrenheit degrees and air pressure is roughly 850 hPA. Second factor of recurrence of hail is proximity of weather front with equator and polar air masses. How can we be sure that our vacation won’t be confused by gale? Pick late August time or early June, pick other state for a journey or take a fancy to winter sports.
